What is the indication of Tirofiban infusion?

Tirofiban infusion is primarily indicated for the treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which includes conditions like unstable angina and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). Tirofiban is a glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor that works by preventing platelets from aggregating, thereby reducing the risk of thrombus (blood clot) formation.

The infusion is usually administered in combination with heparin and aspirin to patients who are experiencing symptoms of ACS and are either undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or are at high risk of requiring such a procedure. The goal of Tirofiban infusion is to reduce the occurrence of adverse cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks, by inhibiting platelet aggregation during the critical period when the coronary arteries are most vulnerable to clot formation.
